She is a high school student who loves her hometown of Hinase in Okayama Prefecture.
So, in order let more people know about the area Kinari started the ‘Ama-vegi’ project through which she created a fertilizer out of empty oyster shells and a type of seaweed called ‘Amamo’ and used it to grow vegetables.
This project, however, is not only outward looking but also seeks to provide a social hub to reconnect those in the region who have felt an emotional distance widening amongst local people.
‘My Project’ is a scheme for society and regional areas led by Japanese high-school students.
This project-based learning program, managed by the non-profit organization ‘KATARIBA’, is designed to encourage students’ learning through creation of student-led problem solving projects that dealing with matters close to the individual.
